St. Simons Island, Georgia is one of the most beautiful, popular destinations for visitors and locals alike. It’s a great place to get away from it all, relax on the beach, or go exploring with friends and family. St. Simons provides many opportunities to explore picturesque locations where many visitors have never been before – so why not take the opportunity?

There are so many charming places that you should see while visiting the Golden Isles, but here are my favorite five:

1) The Lighthouse – The St. Simons Lighthouse Museum is located in a quiet village near the pier and features a historic lighthouse built after its original predecessor was destroyed by Confederate forces to avoid it being used as a refuge for Federal troops during America’s Civil War. This one of only five surviving light towers left standing within Georgia, making this museum worth stopping at if you are ever on vacation here!

2) The Beach – The Golden Isles of Georgia offers a scenic journey that’s perfect for those looking to enjoy the beautiful beaches and coastal views. The coastline is filled with endless sand, as well as different activities like shelling– which always seems to remind you of your childhood. You can go to the waves anytime and have a blast!

The seashore has an unending amount of beautiful beaches where people come from all around for their relaxation or recreation needs; whether it be collecting shells on shorelines or swimming in water at any time that they would prefer.

There are plenty of options such as family-friendly East Beach on St. Simons Island, the beautiful Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, and the unadventured seven-mile beach of Little St. Simons Island. When it comes to East Coast coasts, the view of St. Simons Island is a breathtaking landscape with a mostly seaside vibe perfect for family vacations.

3) Fort Frederica National Monument– The town of Frederica was established by James Oglethorpe in 1736 to protect his southern boundary from Spanish invasion. The fort and village quickly became a thriving community, with at least 500 citizens living there within 3 years’ time. Today, the fort is preserved by the National Park Service and is a National Monument. It’s listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is one of Georgia’s most valued relics of early American history.

4) The Sea Turtle Center at the Jekyll Island Museum of History and Natural Science – Georgia’s first rehab, research, and education facility for sea turtles—provides state-of-the-art care to sick and injured animals. They are the first of their kind in the state and provide care while also providing research opportunities with local universities as well as educating locals about these magnificent creatures that call our coast home. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is the perfect place to take your family and friends if you want a fun day with lots of different things to do. There are a number of educational programs for school-aged children that focus on these ancient reptiles. They provide fascinating information about the animals, and it’s unlike any other program available in our area!

5) Historic Downtown Brunswick – Picture a quaint little town with Victorian architecture and beautiful pocket parks. In the center of it all is Historic Downtown Brunswick, where you can find shops and restaurants galore! If you’re looking for an outdoor escape from your busy schedule, take some time to explore this historic gem on foot or by bike – there are plenty of scenic spots that offer spectacular views of the cityscape below. It’s not uncommon to see families and friends walking through Brunswick on any given day, enjoying all it has to offer – from fine dining at one restaurant you may never have heard of but that now sounds so appealing, seeing an awesome band play live just down the street for no cover charge (or maybe even getting your fill of some good ol’ Southern BBQ).

I can’t think of a better way to spend your vacation than exploring an area that has so many opportunities for new and exciting experiences. The Golden Isles are full of things you’ve never seen before, but they’re waiting just around the corner! These are 5 places you must see when visiting St. Simons Island.
